Fresh Pods, Water, Salt – Nothing Else

Plain and Simple

  • Put fresh (or frozen) pods in lightly salted, boiling water
  • Cook for six to twelve minutes, depending on the variety and desired taste
  • Drain in a colander and then place edamame in a bowl
  • Sprinkle coarse salt on top and serve warm. Pair with a nice cold beer for a delicious snack.

This is the common and classic way to eat edamame. The pods should not be eaten; rather the beans are "pulled out". There are many variations on this classic preparation. For example, the cooked pods can also be fried with some oil – and become especially tasty with some added sesame, ginger or cayenne pepper!
